Hill is no Steve Young. ———– I’ve loved having him qb the team I root for and have seen every game he’s played and I do believe he has a bit left in the tank but – I do think it’s time to look for his replacement. If Brees decides he wants to play and to remain with the Saints, the Saints will have a decision to make. It’s all about money and I doubt if anyone is going to give him $30-35M on a one-year deal. The guy may never be a huge numbers quarterback but you have to admit he wins a lot of games. — We are witnessing the old guard wind down their careers. Within the next two months, we’ll find out where. __________, LMAO!! Peyton Manning proved though, that wall is there. However it plays out, the Saints will need to make decisions fairly soon. Why would he leave now! This entire article is purely “terrible” speculation at its finest. I’m not sure that “using Hill” more would’ve equated to a win in the WC game. Hill might be perfect for Carolina. "That's the approach I've always taken, and that's the approach this team has taken. The football-following world is paying way too much attention to the future of Tom Brady, and not nearly enough to the future of Drew Brees. Not only does Favre think Brees is going to call it quits after the 2020 season, but Saints coach Sean Payton seemed to hint at that earlier this year. Whether or not Brees' retires following the 2020 season, he will go down one of the best quarterbacks in recent years. Whatever happens, Drew Brees was hands down the best thing to ever happen to the Saints. They used him in 2-3 situations he was quite effective, but the whole game & offense cannot be all trick plays to the back-up quarterback. And can Payton please quit calling toss plays to AK 5 yards into the backfield?!!!
You have nothing to prove to anyone. I dont understand any of this… Taysom Hill literally couldnt stay on the field in just college. He is THE weak link of the saints defense. He manages the game very well with the proper players around him but he isn’t a full time starter.
My money is on the Saints hanging on to Brees and Hill, and Teddy ending up in Chicago. All this Bridgewater Talk lol. Like we're so close, we're really a play or two away. The guy has thrown 13 passes in three seasons completing 6 with an interception.”.
Bell to Chiefs: What it means for CEH, K.C. During a TV interview, Payton was asked what role he envisioned Taysom Hill playing in 2020, and that's when the Saints coach revealed that 2020 would likely be Brees' "final season.". Drew Brees will be back next season, no doubt about that. Brady has made it clear that he’ll play in 2020. While the first step in the process hinges on Brees, it’s possible that he chooses to keep playing and the Saints choose to turn the page to Taysom Hill, or possibly to a Hill-Bridgewater combination.
He’s a gadget player that can throw a ball some. That’s the kind of player he is, greedy to the end. The dude has been a gadget player who is like 30-31 y/o and has thrown a grand total of something like 40 passes in the NFL. Hill is a great athlete and probably should be given a shot if they feel he is like a Steve Young.
Covering the impact of coronavirus on the sports world. If he’s willing to take a Brady type of deal so they can pay the players around him, then sign him. “Taysom Hill is a gadget player who rarely throws the ball and all of a sudden he’s a target for an offer sheet? “Taysom Hill is a gadget player who rarely throws the ball and all of a sudden he’s a target for an offer sheet?
Have you forgotten about slash (kordell stewart) and Tebow? Especially when 4 of those touchdowns came in one single game against one of the worst defenses in the league. In what would be his final regular-season home game if he retires, Brees had a night for the ages against the Colts last month, completing 29 of 30 passes and breaking the career touchdown-pass record. He had FOUR (4!!) He went 5-0 when Brees went down. He was also a decent starter for one of the worst-run USFL teams. Obviously folks weren’t watching the games. Retire already and don’t bother with an explanation. Holy Hot Takes. That said, in a league of 32, to be ranked in the top 50 means he’s a very good #2 and he will get paid like it. Brees is going to chew up the cap, big time. ", "Hey, at this time, man, I'm on borrowed time," the 41-year-old quarterback said, via ESPN. I cannot imagine that he could be comfortable going out with that flop of a game against the Vikings. It comes down to money…will he or will he not accept a low salary for one year. The guy has thrown 13 passes in three seasons completing 6 with an interception.”
Not hating on Brees at all, but you either want to play or you don’t. Holy Hot Takes.
If Hill was such a capable QB, why didn’t he replace Brees during the games he missed? It’d be endless criticism for how they took the ball out of the hands of a Super Bowl MVP and future Hall of Famer in favor of a guy who rarely passes and is known for trick plays. I don’t remember Drew ever giving a hometown discount on his contracts. I think Brady sticking around to break the records is probably closer to the truth, but I do see it happening because I do think there’s a better chance Brees hangs it up. packers291 says:
Father time has been whispering in both Drew and Toms ear…….they ain’t listening.
Although Brees hasn't yet revealed his future plans, he does seem to be thinking the same way as Favre. Both will stay put, and the Saints will hold on to Hill & let Bridgewater walk.
He tried doing that in the playoff game and committed two very costly turnovers that removed any chance of winning the game. What else does a guy have to do to show he is capable of quarterbacking a playoff caliber team? January 28, 2020 at 1:23 pm Best guess is it wouldn’t be his strong suit.
============================================================================== Register now! packers291 says: Steve Young became the starter in SF at age 30.
If not, thanks for your service. Imagine the articles if they’d used Hill more in that playoff game and DIDN’T win. Nor do I believe if Brees retire the Saints will be willing to turn over the keys to the franchise to a guy that didn’t even get the opportunity to start when Brees was hurt earlier in the season. Anyone who was watching it closely knows the Vikings didn’t want any more of him running the ball so he wouldn’t have had to attempt another pass. Hill is going to get paid something north of that 6 mil. He was so good, he literally pushed Montana out the door in SF. I’ve been dreaming of Taysom Hill sharing the Carolina backfield with Christian McCaffrey, but if the Saints are keeping him, I’m outta luck. Retire and enjoy your kids before they get too old ( Rivers too ). Start Taysom except put Brees in when they are in the red zone so Brees can extend his TD record. That kid won a heisman, was a first round pick (as a QB), and was a starter by the end of his rookie season. Hill has started precisely 0 games. Whatever he ultimately does, this isn’t an effort to generate attention or spark discussion.
inozwetrust says: And really, they could have easily run the table the last two years. Although Brady might end up playing forever, there's been a lot of retirement speculation about Brees, who turned 41 in January. And of course the vikings turned back into a pumpkin a week later. Brady has made it clear that he’ll play in 2020.
Not hating on Brees at all, but you either want to play or you don’t. Brees will not let Brady break his touchdowns and passing yards records. It is more than likely than Brees will end his career with a loss, whether its this year or sometime in the near future. Brees and the Saints have been knocked out of the playoffs in dramatic fashion in each of the past three eyars, and according to Favre, that's something that begins to wear on you. None.
Season ending injuries. Coincidentally, the team that knocked out Minnesota in 2009 was Brees' Saints, who would go on to win the Super Bowl. He could be a missing piece for a team but he’s not the kind of guy to carry a team. Just looking at the QB’s left standing in the playoffs, there is a youth movement and the landscape is changing.
They probably both come back for one more go.
Holy Hot Takes. Pretty simple math.

Not only that, taysom barely plays as a gimmick, so even if he can somehow stay healthy with more usage and a very physical style of play… when teams can focus on him as the main qb, will he really be able to keep up the production? No one is giving up a 1st rounder for Taysom Hill…sorry, “Hill had been utilized just a little bit more in the wild-card loss to the Vikings, the Saints quite likely would have won the game.”. No one is game planning for Hill. The Saints defense gave up 6 points less per game with Teddy at QB, and the Saints offense averaged 7 points less per game with Teddy at QB. There is zero indication he is ready to step in and be a starter in the NFL and the idea that another team would give up a 1st round pick for him is ridiculous. You can see it in both of them when they throw, their ball don’t have the same pop it did even as little as two years ago. He’s played a long time and done alot for the game. Go worry about you own teams. January 28, 2020 at 1:39 pm Well he’d make the right ‘business decision’ if the Panthers offered him 60 mil for 4 years. mogogo1 says:
Brees had a GREAT year. That was the same sort of reasoning around why the kid in Baltimore wouldn’t do anything.
6-keys: media/spln/nfl/reg/free/stories, at Can’t imagine that the Saints wouldn’t go into next season with Bridgewater as the starter if Brees retires. Would be a bargain if he’s great.
LJ was a first round pick who became the starter as a rookie.
