What will their roster look like? This may have been stretching the limits of equity, but Colorado will have a tough time keeping their young core together near contract extension time, so I snapped up Burakovsky, who will slot in nicely on my second line. points at the season’s pause. It was an excruciating process that had rough drafts on top of rough drafts that were saved on my desktop as "final paper" while the file-naming progressively got lazier into the night as creativity reached an all-time low with file names like "final paper 3" and "final 8". If you’ve been following hockey for a couple of years, you know that the Devils are bereft of talent by NHL standards, but that didn’t stop CapFriendly from leaving 2015 sixth overall pick Pavel Zacha unprotected. First, a few disclaimers: Protected players on CapFriendly are based on crowd-sourced popularity. Despite that, the players made available were chosen to keep under the $81.5mil salary cap (totaling $76.5mil.) Almost intimidating. This group took up only $62.4 million of the $79.5 million upper cap limit, so Francis will maintain maximum cap flexibility as Seattle may eye a big-name addition via the trade or free agent markets to attempt a year one postseason run, which is entirely possible.

We've got four no-move-clauses here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. article because they opted to protect Cizikas as well. David Krejci will be a UFA at the end of the 2020-2021 season, Zdeno Chara, assuming that he plays for a few more years, will likely retire or finish his career with the Bruins, which leaves only a few options for Seattle to select from. Without any further delay, here are the results of my first expansion mock draft for the Seattle Kraken at the end of the 2020-2021 season:

The 2021 NHL Expansion Draft will be under the same rules for Seattle as the Vegas Golden Knights in 2017. Assuming he re-signs (and there’s no reason to think that doesn’t happen), the B’s could have a tough time hanging onto Matt Grzelyck, who may be the odd defenseman out after Boston protects Krug, Charlie McAvoy, and Brandon Carlo. They've got less than Howies Hockey Tape's follower count, but it's still on the rise! Järnkrok - a younger, affordable winger that puts points on the board. We've got quite the dilemma brewing here in Alberta, and no, it's not what Connor McDavid's next highlight video will look like. With Brenden Dillon dealt to Washington and eventual Hall of Famer - Joe Thornton soon to hang up the skates, there aren't a ton of options for Seattle to sift through when it comes to the Bay Area. Since I can’t nab Bailey or Bellows in the mock engine, I begrudgingly picked up Cizikas, who slots in as my (gulp) first-line center. Not that I’m complaining – Seattle’s got their second-pairing right-shot defenseman. He's the only one with a no-move-clause and he's signed through 2026, so you've got nothing to worry about. The seven selected forwards were also the top seven highest-paid players on the team with Ovechkin leading the way with his $9.5 million dollar contract and Jakub Vrána closing things out with his $3.3 million dollar contract. I can already hear it now - JVR isn't that old! That's why we're sticking to our virtual assessment of each team's decisions and creating a mock expansion draft team without being on the hook for each move. Vrána closing things out with his $3.3 million dollar contract. Evander Kane and Jonathan Dahlen won’t actually be available to Seattle in all likelihood, so I pivoted and took a look at the Sharks’ previously-vaunted D-corps for help. Your privacy is safe with us. One of them will probably be available in a year’s time, so we’ll take a chance on Zacha and hope he can experience a William Karlsson-like breakthrough in Seattle. The Vegas Golden Knights, the League's 31st … It’s difficult to know what to do with the players slated to be free agents before Seattle drafts. Although Seattle could seek out dipping into Winnipeg's defensive side, I think they'll opt for a good value in productive center, Nick Shore. We recommend you review the players protected!

Each of the 30 NHL teams submitted its list of protected players on Saturday for the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft. That is insane. As of today, we can only project what players could be available during the expansion more than a year in advance.

This was a truly brutal look for the simulator. Apparently it's supposed to release soon: When the NHL brought the balance back to its current 31-team roster by announcing a new pro team in Seattle, excitement stirred within residents of the Pacific Northwest as they would now have another team to pledge their loyalty to outside of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks, the WNBA's Seattle Storm, and the now-defunct Seattle SuperSonics. The choice looks to be 26-year old defenseman, Matt Grzelcyk. It truly is Detroit vs. Everybody. NHL Seattle is slated to make its expansion draft selections about one year from now ahead of their inaugural season in 2021-22. The Sabres’ setup is more cut-and-dry – as things stand, they’ll either have to part with Henri Jokiharju, a 21-year old bona fide NHL defenseman, or Brandon Montour, an established second-pairing 26-year old D-man. As the gaze shifts over to the offense, Minnesota no longer needs to protect one of their star players, Jason Zucker as they dealt him to the Penguins for Alex Galchenyuk, defensive prospect Calen Addison, and a first-round pick. With the goal in mind to steal your team’s favorite unprotected player, the Kraken could potentially make a break for the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs in their inaugural season.
