Luffy is later saved at sea by Shanks from being devoured by a Sea King, a large sea beast, and Shanks loses an arm. Luffy grinned when he was attacked by two Beasts Pirates' members on the shores of Wano Country. Luffy also has an extreme thirst for adventure, which he has stated is the main reason he wants to become the Pirate King, having the belief that the Pirate King would be the one on the entire ocean with the most freedom for adventuring. [2] This willpower even lets him survive far beyond what normal people are capable of, as demonstrated when he was poisoned very far beyond what a human is capable of surviving, only living on despite his critical condition through sheer willpower. Afterward, the remaining crew and their friends are transported by their new subordinates to Zou and learn it was devastated by the forces of Emperor Kaido. This allows a majority of Luffy's arm to remain as it is, allowing him to stretch it, thus allowing him to attack much faster than before the two-year absence.

His greatest feat in this area, however, was that he managed to make Jinbe, who is known to have an extremely high tolerance towards pain, yell out in pain when he bit the fishman's arm.

It should be noticed that he has somehow managed to do it automatically (much like the aforementioned superheroes) after the timeskip.

Porchemy then uses spiked gloves and no matter how many times Porchemy beats Luffy, he refuses to yield.

Another running gag is Luffy's slow reaction time, especially to freezing temperatures. He never saw who stopped Smoker becasue he was blown away by a powerful wind. Follow him on Twitter at AndalusianDoge.

This in conjunction with his Busoshoku Haki was able to take out a Pacifista with a single punch, something that took the entire Straw Hat crew to do before the timeskip.

However, he is easily defeated and becomes a hostage. Take your favorite fandoms with you and never miss a beat.

This was later shown with Basil Hawkins' fortune telling, as despite doing it numerous times, he could never get Luffy's chance of survival to reach zero. Luffy, inspired by them, decided to become a pirate as well. During his fight with Morgan, Luffy viciously punched him for abusing his status as a Marine Captain, saying it was destroying Koby's dream of becoming a Marine. After standing up to the bandit, Luffy is easily defeated and kidnapped, but Shanks came to save him, though his arm was bitten off by a sea monster when he went to save Luffy from drowning. Luffy and the others meet Jimbei and the island's princess, Shirahoshi, and are drawn into a battle for the island against the Fishman supremacist Hody Jones.

Luffy is also shown capable of using Gear Third at the same time as Busoshoku Haki, causing his arm to turn black and harden, with his arm in the ocean (which would normally drain a Devil Fruit user of their power).

Another one of Luffy's amazing skills is his capability to tame and/or befriend creatures in a very short amount of time.

The defense of his Busoshoku Haki, however, is not absolute as shown in his fight with Hody Jones, where it was revealed that while it is strong enough to resist blunt attacks, it is currently not strong enough to defend against sharp objects, such as Hody Jones' shark-like teeths. Luffy ends the war by defeating the god Eneru. While Luffy prefers to fight his opponents one on one without any interference, he is not above receiving help from others if necessary.

Another after effect of this is that Luffy is reduced to child-sized proportions, the duration of which is equal to the time he spent in Gear Third.

In the process, he ran into an intruding Blackbeard who noted that Luffy's Haki increased since last time they met (in Jaya). He is the son of Monkey D. Dragon. Also, Luffy wanted a musician as part of his crew, as his reasoning is that pirates love to sing and a musician is essential to a pirate crew, something that was fulfilled when Brook joined his crew.

After he used this, he did not turn into his child-like form. Monkey D. Garp |

BNA: Brand New Animal is now streaming on Netflix. [9] This is probably purely based on muscle memory since what Luffy does best is fighting and eating. He is voiced by Mayumi Tanaka in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Colleen Clinkenbeard in the English version of the anime. During his fight against Katakuri, He gained an even greater ability to see slightly to the future as Katakuri does when he helped Hyogoro to dodge Llamaman and Madilloman. Luffy has been gained extraordinary stretching powers from eating the Gomu Gomu no Mi (lit. Before training under Silvers Rayleigh, Luffy displayed limited to no control over this ability, and did not seem to realize he had it, but used it on instinct whenever it seemed to be most needed, and could still use it even when extremely injured. Luffy also seems to have a slight obsession when it comes to outfitting himself with full-body armors and has a habit of wearing one whenever he gets the chance. In battle, Luffy has shown signs of intelligence, high tactical and innovative skills.

New to being a beastman and still clinging to her human identity, Michiru initially seems to be at a disadvantage compared to natural-born beastmen because she can't easily switch between human and beast forms. [4]An example of Luffy's poor drawing skills.Added by Angel EmfrblAnother running gag in the series is Luffy's inability to draw. He meets swordsman Roronoa Zoro, ocean navigator At the Sabaody Archipelago, he worked together with his crew to take down a Pacifista.

Shanks then leaves Luffy his straw hat as a parting gift, telling him to return it once he surpasses him. [16], Luffy is portrayed as a carefree, happy-go-lucky character with great ambition and a huge appetite, often thinking with his stomach and comically gorging himself. [54] In the final chapter of Naruto, Boruto Uzumaki makes a drawing of Luffy as a legacy of him and the series. This was first shown when Kuro loathed the ways of becoming a pirate, which infuriated him and responded that he doesn't have what it takes to be a pirate. When Wapol was stuck in the tower of Drum Castle, Luffy ignored all of Wapol's pleas and gladly sent him flying far away from Drum Island. At the beginning of the series, he said that he wanted at least 10 crew members with abilities he felt necessary for his goal. He is constantly coming up with ways to keep ahead of his foes, either by taking advantage of his own strength and Devil Fruit powers or utilizing the opponent's own strengths (along with their weaknesses) against them. Due to the machinations of Doflamingo, some of the crew is forced to leave for Zou. When attempting to think up a plan to get off of Amazon Lily, while he managed to make some logical sense of where to look, he is seen to strain himself and notes that he is going to feel sick from too much thinking.
