Despite facing the challenges of pitching in a shortened 2020 season that started in July, Lynn has been even better this year. The longest tenured Royal is already one of most accomplished athletes in Kansas City history. And it’s with all of that in mind that Hahn needs to make his decisions at this deadline. He exceeded their expectations in his first year, recording a 3.67 ERA with a career-high 246 strikeouts in 208.1 innings. He threw 110 pitches and left trailing, 4-2. Rangers trade: Lance Lynn; Kyle Wright and Kyle Muller could be interchanged with Wilson and Davidson in this trade scenario. The White Sox are not going to deal an “anything of the future” for a little more than a year of a pitcher of even Lynn’s caliber. The Dodgers, whose budget and depth of quality prospects seems limitless, could have paid the price for a workhorse like Lynn. “If I was another team, I’d want him,” Rangers manager Chris Woodward said. He's clearly undersized (6-foot, 250 pounds) to play offensive line in the NFL, but he's scrappy. (Photo by Dustin Bradford/Getty Images). Ray, meanwhile, is far less alluring thanks to a sky-high 7.84 ERA, a major league leading 31 walks in 31 innings and six wild pitches that also rank as the most in the bigs. That’s left the biggest question surrounding the team from before the season started unanswered: What can the White Sox get out of Dylan Cease, Reynaldo López and Carlos Rodón? Lynn is chief among them, and he’s likely the top pitching prize on this deadline’s market. He's related to Michael Jordan, so elite athleticism clearly runs in his veins. The biggest name was right-hander Lance Lynn, who to that point had been one of the best starting pitchers in baseball and would come with the added bonus of an $8 million contract for 2021. Given the importance pitching will play in October, whichever team lands him could be in serious contention for a World Series title. They’ve got the pieces to put together another historic October. But in terms of two-weeks-out (from the deadline) philosophy, we remain focused on the long term.”. They were all tied to the White Sox in Saturday-morning trade rumors, hours after Yasmani Grandal hit a walk-off home run to send the South Siders into a first-place tie atop the AL Central standings. (Think Devin Hester with the Bears.). I’ve been a sports journalist since graduation from North Texas State University in 1978.

Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy hit a three-run home run off Taylor Hearn in the top of the seventh.

But statistically, Lynn has been one of the AL’s finest arms the last two seasons.
