I think so. Unlike groups, which are practical ensembles (practical organisations) and can do and say things, collectives are practico-inert objects, hence purely material and inorganic, despite appearances to the contrary. Speaking at a 2018 'Marx in a Day' event, celebrating Karl Marx's 200th birthday, Alan Woods (author of 'Reason in Revolt') discusses the philosophy of Marxism - dialectical materialism. ... " Under the guise of presenting a 'scientific' critique, Garzón was preparing a break with Marxism. State–Labour Relations and Spaces of Dissent: Whither Labour Activism? [14] The writings of Engels, especially Anti-Dühring (1878) and Dialectics of Nature (1875–82), were the source of the main doctrines of dialectical materialism. If I leave the series, then someone else will take my place; and if nothing comes of the proposed common action, then I will have missed my one shot at survival. At the most general level, to act in seriality is to act as an abstract other would act in response to the impersonal exigency emitted by worked matter. According to Isaac Karmic and F.M. Where Sartre’s account of scarcity becomes more fruitful is in his analysis of the triple form of alienation it produces (129-132). From the perspective of the group, however, if the institution is overly prudent and decides to demobilise the group, then the movement as a whole risks dying.

Dialectical Materialism. In complete contrast to Thompson, Sartre argues that class or the class-collective ‘is not a practical solidarity but, on the contrary, the absolute unity of destinies brought about by lack of solidarity’. The Young Hegelian Ludwig Feuerbach had rejected Hegel's idealistic philosophy and advocated materialism. Marx and Engels both concluded that Hegelian philosophy, at least as interpreted by their former colleagues, was too abstract and was being misapplied in attempts to explain the social injustice in recently industrializing countries such as Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, which was alleged in the early 1840s to be a growing concern.
[48] Max Eastman argued that dialectical materialism lacks a psychological basis. It must be turned right side up again, if you would discover the rational kernel within the mystical shell. In this article, Alan Woods deals with the main ideas of Karl Marx and their relevance to the crisis we're passing through today. Science is always rooted in class society, and the lack of a dialectical materialist perspective has led some modern scientists back to the idealism and mysticism that the bourgeoisie railed against in its revolutionary phase. Rather, as Sartre explains, they are better described as having a relation of simultaneous “transcendence” and “immanence” with respect to the group (374-382). All things contain contradictory sides or aspects, whose tension or conflict is the driving force of change and eventually transforms or dissolves them. The pledge gives the group-in-fusion the unity it needs in order to differentiate itself internally, and thus to move to the next stage of common action: the organisation (445-479). This is the famous moment of the pledge (417-428). For as we know, an institution only exists by keeping its members impotent. "Dialectical materialism, so some have argued, belongs to a current of vitalist materialism which passes from Democritus and Epicurus to Spinoza, Schelling, Nietzsche, Henri Bergson, Ernst Bloch, Gilles Deleuze and a range of other thinkers.
